You all know that I am a basics lover to my core. Give me a good solid color t-shirt or tank top and I am a happy woman. You also know that I love showing you how to transition pieces into the next season, so that you can get more wear out of them and more bang for your buck. Tee’s and tanks are also a huge pillar of my effortless style philosophy which really is what guides my own personal style. Today I am going to show you a few different ways that you can take those favorite staple pieces and show you how you can incorporate them into your fall wardrobe.
Let’s start with the basics first. This burn out boyfriend tee from Nordstrom is one of my favorites. I typically do not wear that many v-neck t-shirts so I like the scoop neck on this shirt. It also is a good price point which is even better. If you like a v-neck tee I have heard amazing things about the Madewell Whisper Cotton V-neck. They also come in a crew neck as well. They are less than $20 and one of my girlfriends wears these shirts and says they hold up so well.
So now that you have the t-shirt down, what do you pair it with? I am going to do a whole post next week just on my favorite fall accessories, but for now we will stick to the major pieces. I wanted to show you guys some of my favorite jackets, cardigans and ponchos I am pairing with my tees and tanks this fall.
Let’s start with a twist on a blazer. Collegiate inspired design is HUGE this fall and to say I am obsessed with this Varsity blazer is an understatement. You guys know I am a huge sucker for a blazer and I love the fun twist on a traditional blazer and the use of the varsity detailing. You also know I’ve dated a football player from the time I was in 8th grade, so I’m loving the grown-up twist that has been put on varsity letter jackets too. How cute is this one? I think I am going to have to put it in my cart so I can re-live my high school days.
My love for a good faux-leather jacket knows no bounds and I find myself adding a new one to my collection every year. This year’s addition is this awesome vegan leather jacket that I know will be in constant rotation throughout the fall. The moto-detailing on this jacket and it is a little bit of a heavier, thicker material so all of you ladies who live in colder climates, this is the leather jacket for you. It also has a great price point…$98 to be exact.
Who doesn’t love a good cozy cardigan when the weather starts to get cold? No one, that’s who! A cardigan really is the perfect transitional piece for fall. Light enough weight that you can wear then when the weather is still cool in the mornings, but not so hot that you are sweltering by the time the heat of the day gets there. Nashville has had a really late fall this year and honestly it just started cooling down this week to wear you even needed an extra layer on in the mornings and evenings. I grabbed this cardigan from Nordstrom the other day and it is my new favorite for fall.

I grabbed this cardigan from Nordstrom the other day and it is my new favorite for fall. I like a longer line on my cardigan because it keeps you from feeling to much like a little old church lady…or Mr. Rogers. This one has great detailing on the sleeve and is so soft. A definite must have.
I wanted to throw in ponchos as the unsung hero of fall. I feel like it is frequently overlooked as a transition piece, but it really is a good one. For all of my ladies who live in warmer climates, THIS is the fall staple that you have to have. It provides that extra layer of warmth, but it is breezy and open so you are not left sweltering. It is always what I grab when I am wishing it was cold enough to wear a sweater, but it just isn’t yet.
And all you ladies up north don’t you fret, you can wear a poncho in the early fall or pair it over a sweater as it gets cooler. My only advice is to make sure that the sweater is a slim cut, non-bulky sweater to avoid looking too puffy. It would look great over this sweater that you could tuck in to jeans or over a long sleeve t-shirt. You could also go for a long sleeved poncho like this one.
