HOW DO YOU DISTRESS YOUR SWEATSHIRT?

Apparently, you girls are into a little summer DIY. This is a hot topic in my direct messages and email, believe it or not. You guys really took note of the distressing and cutting of that Vici (Beach Bum) Sweatshirt. Remember that? The one I was wearing in the Bahamas. It’s always funny to me what catches your eye.

I am the farthest thing from a clothing designer, but I like to make my favorite pieces a little more me, which led to me distressing that sweatshirt all together. It is the easiest thing.

Side note: I think if you are going to cut something up, it probably shouldn’t break the bank. Target and Old Navy also do a great job at offering a good comfy sweatshirt, that if you mess up, and you won’t, you won’t be out a ton of money. Plus the more distressed/messed up… the better.

HERE ARE THE STEPS:

Step 1: Lay your sweatshirt flat on a hard surface, preferably your kitchen island or table. Then, take your scissor and cut right under the collarette, aka the stitching of the neckline on the sweatshirt.

Step 2: You can move down to the sleeves of the sweatshirts, and do the same on the arm pieces.

Step 3: Next, I like the rolled up distressed look that it ends up giving the entire sweatshirt, so I cut up some the entire bottom with my scissors too.

Step 4: If you are feeling super adventurous, you can take an X-ACTO knife and put some slits in the sweatshirt, then take a hairbrush to it and rub aggressively over the slits. Bonus Tip: you can also take the point of your scissors and cut little holes, and stretch gently with your fingers to create warn openings.

Step 5: After that, just throw that bad boy in the washer and dryer to give it that really beat up, like it’s been around for quite a few years, and after a few wears it kind of takes on a life of its own.

VIDEO: Now if you are more of a visual person like me, and I lost you at Step 2…so I decided to look for a good tutorial online to help you visualize the process a bit more: you can watch this two part video below.

WHAT’S YOUR TAKE ON RENT THE RUNWAY?

 PICTURE PICTURE

Okay, so you know when I find something that I love, I have to share it. I had heard a little bit here and there over the years about Rent the Runway, and as far as I was concerned, all you could rent were formal gowns and event like dresses. Since living in Nashville, I found The Showroom where I could walk in and shop dresses anytime I wanted, so therefore using the service didn’t make sense for me. If you don’t know what Rent the Runway is, it is a website that allows a girl to rent the perfect gown for an event, and return it after wearing it. Pretty cool concept right? There’s no sense buying an expensive gown for an event and only wear it once. Am I right?!

The other day Anne Claire walked in with this super cute summer dress on, and after gushing over it for a good while, she revealed her secret. It was a piece she got from Rent the Runway and my mind was blown. So many questions…they weren’t just a place for gowns and evening wear? They have regular clothes too? They have accessories for everyday wear? I can pick and choose?? I mean, what girl doesn’t want to get 4 dresses or maybe 3 dresses and a beautiful bag every week to try out?! Talk about never being seen in the same outfit twice. Who knew!

I know, I know…you are probably like, “Landyn, what’s the catch?” and girls, there really isn’t one. It’s a pretty easy system to use! You pay a certain amount depending on what tier membership you choose ($89 for RTR Update and $159 for RTR Unlimited) and then you pick out the type of styles you like, and they send you 4 pieces a week. It’s like Christmas, you never know what you’re gonna get. You wear, you try, you send them back…and yes all of that is covered in the amount you pay a month. Can I get a HECK YEAH?!

Even better? Let’s say you fall in love with the item they sent you and you don’t want to send it back? You want to keep it forever…well you are in luck! They will sell it to you for a discounted price. Talk about a win/win! And they have RTR KIDS….hello family pictures or special birthday! This is so smart.

Still curious? Read more here. And below are a few things that caught my eye when I went on their site. I might have to try this. What about you?

WHERE DID YOU GET THAT STAR NECKLACE YOU’VE BEEN WEARING?

Let me tell you, you girls are observant and I love it. It sounds like you’ve been paying attention to what I’ve got around my neck, and have taken notice of that dainty star necklace in my stories as of late. I can’t keep any secrets from you girls! It’s something new I’ve been working on, and I can’t wait to share it with you…very soon.

As you know, I restocked + relaunched my collection with Melanie Auld and I’ve loved seeing all of your excitement! I am looking forward to seeing you all wearing them, so make sure to tag me when you do! Out for delivery May 15th 🙂

Since the feedback was so positive and Melanie is currently designing a solid gold line, I figured why not look into more designs? I mean…. who knew I loved jewelry designing. So fun!

There is no date yet for releasing this newest collection, BUT I am making sure that it is perfect. I want to make sure they are the right size, fit and layer perfectly with everything else you have. My goal is if you are going to wear something daily and spend the money on the real thing, I want to make sure its worth your while, and something you never want to take off.

So be on the lookout, you girls will be the first to know! Below are my current designs.
